Ely Hero Awards 2020 Finalists – THE Ely Hero

Introducing our Ely Hero Award finalists for 2020-21.

Amanda Hellman

Amanda launched AAA Motorcycle Training in March 2019 with the ethos that a business should give back to the community that supports it. She has, despite personal health concerns, not only grown a successful business but created SAMS (Safety Always Makes Sense) a foundation to support Motorcycle Safety to the young riders in our local community and beyond. Amanda and her Team of Motorcycle characters are a popular sight in Ely and the surrounding areas, collecting donations for the Food Bank at Christmas and Easter and of course during the Lockdown, collecting and delivering prescriptions for those shielding and vulnerable. When the Judges spoke to her in early July they had delivered over 7,500, all free of charge. “Her passion and determination to help others really shines through, she is unstoppable!” says one of her nominators.

Naomi McCrombie

Naomi is the Operations Manager of Atrium Fitness. An employee of the company for many years, she is highly organised and visionary in her approach to the management of the staff team as well as the logistical operation of the organisation. The lockdown has caused many challenges for this industry, but Naomi is extremely hard working and highly thought of by the team, together they have created a “new normal”. Her colleagues say that she always sees their better side and provides them a confidence building lift when needed. She does everything with a smile on her face and even when dealing with some extremely difficult personal circumstances, has rarely had a day off. This provides inspiration to everyone she works with. She also makes great coffee!

Danielle Baldwin

Danielle and her family sadly lost her Sister earlier this year at the age of 40 following a lifetime of severe health issues. Danielle was nominated for being their Hero, for putting her own life on hold and supporting those around her, over and above herself. She is a planning several fundraising activities in future years. Currently Danielle donates 5 days of her time, every year to volunteer with charities and last year fed 10 families in need for Christmas Dinner.  Her nominators describe her this way “Danielle shows sheer courage and selflessness despite the horror of what life has thrown at her, she gives us all hope and light”
