The Ely Hero Awards has officially launched for its ninth year! Our 2026 season began in style on Monday, 20th April, with a fantastic launch event hosted by our wonderful friends at Poets House.
We were honoured to welcome His Majesty’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Sue Freestone, who spoke warmly about the continued support provided by the Lieutenancy Office to the Ely Hero Awards. Mrs Freestone highlighted His Majesty The King’s keen interest in uplifting community stories, and how this royal encouragement has, over the years, led to royal invitations for several past Ely Hero winners—a truly special recognition.
It was a joy to be joined by our amazing business sponsors, reconnect with some of last year’s inspirational winners, and hear from our Charity of the Year, Arthur Rank Hospice, whom we are incredibly proud to support throughout the season. The evening was hosted by Shelley Davies, one of our fabulous judges, who gave guests an exciting update on the plans for the year ahead.
A fun, laughter-filled spaghetti tower building game rounded off the night, with Red Shoes Accounting Services emerging victorious—well done to the team!
Nominations are now open! If you know someone in Ely who goes above and beyond, now is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on their efforts. Submit your nomination via our website: www.elyheroawards.org.uk/nominate
Let’s come together to celebrate the everyday heroes who help make our community so extraordinary!
