Ely came alive on Friday 11th September with an unforgettable celebration of kindness, strength, and community spirit at the Ely Hero Awards 2026.

Friday 11th September saw the 9th Ely Hero Awards take place at The Maltings – and what a night it was.

The room was filled with energy, positivity, excitement and celebration as an incredible community came together to shine a light on the people who make Ely such a special place to live and work.

Finalists were recognised across 11 categories, each celebrating acts of generosity, resilience, kindness and inspiration that have made a genuine difference to the lives of others.

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear this was going to be a very special evening. Blueshed brought the event to life with fantastic audio-visual production, stage and room lighting, helping to create the perfect atmosphere throughout the evening. Party Malarky Events transformed the space with stunning table settings, balloons and illuminated letters, creating some fabulous photo opportunities for guests.

Guests were also treated to two wonderful performances from Star Struck Theatre Group, who delivered a couple of fantastic renditions from Matilda. And, as always, the team at The Maltings provided a seamless service from start to finish.

A huge thank you goes to our fabulous host, Jeremy Sallis, who kept the evening flowing effortlessly with his warmth, energy and professionalism.

Among the distinguished guests was His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Julie Spence OBE, who joined us in celebrating the outstanding achievements of this year’s finalists and introduced the prestigious THE Ely Hero 2026 award.

This year’s chosen charity was Arthur Rank Hospice, who do incredible work supporting people across Cambridgeshire living with an advancing serious illness, as well as those requiring end-of-life care.

Thanks to a fantastic raffle and charity auction, we were delighted to raise £4,000 to support their vital work.

We were overwhelmed by the generosity of local shops and businesses who donated an incredible selection of prizes. A special thank you goes to Martin Millard from Cheffins Fine Art, who worked the room, brought the energy and helped us raise these much-needed funds.

Behind every great event is an army of amazing people, and the Ely Hero Awards are no exception. We are incredibly grateful to all of our local businesses, sponsors, judges, supporters, volunteers, suppliers and everyone who gives their time, resources, skills and energy to make the Ely Hero Awards possible.

You believe in the event. You believe in our community. And, most importantly, you believe in celebrating the incredible people who quietly do extraordinary things every single day.

To every hero, nominee, finalist, winner, guest, supporter and friend who joined us – thank you. You made the room sparkle.

Here’s to an unforgettable night, and the incredible people of Ely who continue to inspire us year after year.
