After a 3 year wait, The Ely Hero of 2019 attends Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace!

Alison Fitt of Soham who was crowned THE Ely Hero back in 2019 attended the Royal Garden Party on Wednesday 11th May following cancellations surrounding the pandemic. Alison received her invitation back in 2019 after winning the much coveted award, and was delighted to learn that plans had been put back in place at Buckingham Palace this year for guests to attend the Royal Event.

The Royal Garden Party was attended by 8000 guests from all over the country in recognition of their service to the country or community. Alison Fitt has been a tireless fundraiser through the “Strong Soham Mums” group giving over £26,000 to charity – the Road Victims Trust and Addenbrooks Hospital Charitable Trust via the proceeds of a Calendar that she and 11 other local bereaved mums produced.  Alison said of the Royal Garden Party “I had such an amazing day at the Royal Garden Party, even the soggy weather couldn’t dampen my spirits! Thank you to Ely Hero Awards for my invitation and for all the hard work the team put in to making the awards so special. It was a privilege to attend”

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall along with Princess Anne stepped in the take the place of Her Majesty The Queen at this year’s Garden Party. The Royals greeted guests following a procession by the Yeoman of The Guard, the Military Band played throughout the whole afternoon with classics, musical and film themes including James Bond. Guests were treated to a full Royal Afternoon Tea served in a glorious marquee and time was allowed to wander around the beautiful gardens of the Palace giving a peak into Royal life!
