On Monday 1st Jul 2019 over 150 excited guests gathered to The Maltings in Ely for the 3rd Ely Hero Awards Ceremony. For the 3rd year running, Metro Rod Cambridge, local drain care specialists have organised a community event designed to reward and celebrate inspiring individuals in the City of Ely and surrounding villages along with the team at Infiniti Graphics.

The event is supported by over 20 local businesses who provide sponsorship of the event and various aspects such as promotional videos, judges hospitality, accounting and media support. It is a huge credit to the business community for their generosity. The Ely Standard Newspaper and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire provide media support and “Mann in the Morning” presenter, Chris Mann hosted the event.

It was Red Carpet Treatment all the way for the 30 excited Finalists and their guests gathered for a special evening of celebration with food provided by Habis Restaurant, Littleport, with music by Elma Band and Kathryn Buck, Vocalist.

We are continually grateful and proud of the support given by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence who was our Very Special Guest for the evening.

The calibre of nominations was very high, making a tough job with difficult decisions by the judging panel set up to shortlist and finalise the nominees. Everyone nominated was a winner in the eyes of not only their nominator but by the panel. The judging panel said of the “Most Amazing Professional” Category “The superb quality of the nominations demonstrates the hard work put in by local professionals going beyond the call of duty in their roles and we have been most impressed by the humility shown by those we have met”.

Fen House Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, part of the DT Group based in Ely were the chosen Charity of the Year, the unit provides the most amazing care for individuals with an acquired brain injury. Over £1300 was raised via a raffle for the Unit and we very much looking forward to presenting them with their cheque in September!
