Ely Hero Awards Ceremony 2018

We were “holding out for a hero” and we got plenty of them on Monday 25th June, at the Ely Hero Awards Ceremony 2018, held at The Maltings, Ely Riverside!

It was an epic night to remember for everyone, as we welcomed 155 guests, including local business sponsors, our category finalists along with their friends and family, and civic guests. We were treated to entertainment by local band, Elma, and vocalist Kathryn Buck. The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Ely, Cllr Mike Rouse and hosted by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s, Chris Mann. We were delighted and honoured to have Her Majesty’s Representative of Cambridgeshire, Lord Lieutenant Mrs Julie Spence, as our very special guest, whose support and enthusiasm for this is fantastic!

Mr Mann introduced all our fabulous finalists in the 10 categories, all of which were sponsored by the most generous of businesses in Ely and the District:

  • Metro Rod (Cambridge)
  • Grovermere Property Limited
  • Elyi Magazine
  • ThorLabs
  • Crown Garage Honda
  • Ely Gin Company
  • Xpert Resourcing
  • Life Fitness
  • Kings School Ely
  • and Media Partner, The Ely Standard

Other local businesses sponsored the ceremony itself;

  • Milton Executive Cars
  • Lovewell Blake
  • Platinum Properties
  • Masters Logistical

All elements of promotional materials were designed and produced by Infiniti Graphics, and Sadie Finch, local Virtual Assistant, provided admin support. Both assisting with the organisation of the event as well.

The highlight of the evening was the “Child of Achievement” Category. The stories about these amazing children in our community of Ely touched all our hearts – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as they took to the stage to collect their awards and receive the most electric standing ovation from the audience! The judging panel wished to reward each child as a winner, which was so rightly deserved. A lot of proud Mums and Dads!

With 30 local businesses getting involved in what has been described as “the event of the year”, the support has been overwhelming. It has provided such a surge of excitement through our city that is a joy to behold! Everyone makes a difference and these awards recognise this.

The search for yet more heroes in our community will continue with Ely Hero Awards 2019!
